Some litty topics to get into this week. Festival season continues, two superstars team up, 90's Hip Hop is Honored and so much more!
Catch up with Josie’s #WeeklyRoundUp for the Week September 21st, 2017 below!
1. Hip Hop Honors: The 90’s Game Changers:
This past Monday, Vh1 aired its annual-ish celebration of urban music, Hip Hop Honors. Last year the channel showcased “legendary women in hip hop” and returned this year to celebrate “the golden era of hip hop: the 1990s.”
We all love the 90’s. Missy, Da Brat, Puff Daddy, Trina, Trick Daddy and many more all had a hand at shaping my music world. We grew up on them! The show felt kind-of choppy but, I knew all the words and was jammin’ along! Did y’all catch Mase in Mariah’s Honey performance? I was like, whoa! Then Kandi and Tiny threw in a lil No Scrubs and Trick Daddy & Trina came out with Nann’. Classic. What was your favorite moment?

2. Meet Me in the Gap – Cher & Future:
Have y’all seen that new Gap commercial starring Cher & Future? You haven’t? Oh, ok. They had to have been trying to make a viral video because the combination of these two sprinkled with auto-tune just felt..off. Trust me.

3. Indie Artist Spotlight: Krissy G
Krissy G is a staple on One Up Chronicles Indie Artist Weekly Showcase (which airs every Tuesday from 5-7PM on Highly Unique Radio btw). As part of the Showcase, I've been spinning her Vent It Out track. This dope female rapper from the OC just recently dropped a new mixtape named Pain and Progress. Conflicted (track 2 on the mixtape) is heat. Listen now!
4. Music Midtown 2017
Before moving to Atlanta, I had never heard of Music Midtown. I was definitely missing out! Continuing on our 90's theme from earlier, Music Midtown started in 1994. This year the festival was a 2-day event and had a bunch of acts! The spectrum of genres were covered. You had Mumford & Sons on one stage and Future on another!
Definitely take a moment to explore the recap that Music Midtown has posted to their website:
5. I'm the Guest DJ on Energy Radio ATL #DJLIFE
On Wednesdays, I've been Guest DJ on Highly Unique Radio's night show Energy Radio! Me & Host @elicionne bring you the best new music and discuss some entertaining topics! The show airs LIVE every Wednesday from 7-9PM EST. To listen, you need to have the Highly Unique Radio App or the tunein App. Both are available in the GooglePlay Store or the iTunes Store.
On that note, I hope you're having a productive week thus far. Talk to you soon!
